NAHEDO is an NGO formed by a multidisciplinary team of professionals comprising medical specialists in psychiatry, medicine, gynecology, pediatrics, dermatology, pharmacy, nutrition, nursing, psychology, social work, VCT counselors, environmental scientist and other experts who have years of experience in prevention and care for HIV infected and affected. NAHEDO is registered by the NGO Co-ordination Board, to operate in Nyanza, Eastern, Western and Nairobi Provinces

Currently NAHEDO is in the process of commencing on a study on enhanced economic empowerment initiatives for HIV prevention among youth living in the urban slums of Kenya funded by Johns Hopkins University, Public Health Department, USA


Past Projects

In 2013 NAHEDO coordinated a two day international knowledge translation workshop on research and shared experiences on medical abortion supported by WHO

In 2011 / 2012 NAHEDO in conjunction with The World Health Organization, WHO has been doing research on:-
Enhancing the capacity of non skilled Reproductive health workers to offer information and referral services on misoprostol for use in post-abortion care to clients in informal and low income settlements in Nairobi, a follow-up to a similar study being conducted Pharmacists and Pharmacy workers


PEER EDUCATED FOR COMMUNITY HEALTH CARE TRAINING REPORT DATE; 4/06/2012 -08/06/2012 in conjunction with the Department of Defence
NAHEDO, in conjunction with Kenya Pediatrics Association, participated in training of the following:


Over 300 Health Care Workers from Western, Eastern, Central and Nairobi provinces on

    • Stigma reduction courses in relation to HIV and related illnesses
    • Provider Initiated Counseling and Testing in HIV management.


NAHEDO in conjunction with AED (CAP) and Walter Reed Foundation trained the following:

  • Over 35 social workers, Community Health Workers and Child Development Officers from different parts of Kenya, working with Orphans and vulnerable children programs under the AED capable partners program, Kenya (CAP).


 (November 2008), Research in reproductive health In 2007/2008 NAHEDO participated in research in partnership with IPAS Kenya to establish the use or misuse of abortificient in Nairobi.


In 2007 NAHEDO in conjunction with Walter Reed Foundation and CDC trained over 25 Health Care Workers and peer educators from the armed forces, on home based care for HIV infected and affected.


Environment and Reforestation
NAHEDO together with other stakeholders in Central Kabuoch sensitized and mobilized community members to plant trees and protect the environment. Subsequent to this seminar, 50,000 seedlings were given out.


National Aids control program
NAHEDO through its CBO CHF got a small grant from NACC to undertake community VCT services on site and through home visits in Ziwani. So far they have done a total of   1,452 VCT clients in 2008 alone.


Community outreach programs for stigma reduction, gender based violence, substance abuse prevention and other related topics.

Corporate HIV counseling and testing services.
In 2005 our organization successfully coordinated a one day HIV/AIDS sensitization and awareness program for Wrigley’s company. VCT services and individual counseling at the workplace was provided to approximately 100 staff.
